Wines are tasted by our writers as appropriate for each article, but are usually not tasted blind. Tasting Panels are always conducted blind in controlled settings. Sommelier Journal does not publish numerical scores, preferring to present a wide range of tasters’ notes and recommendations. In Tasting Panels, however, wines are rated by each taster on a 20-point scale, and the results are summarized in a “Snapshot” using a boxplot or “box and whiskers” statistical analysis. This analysis is designed to convey an accurate consensus in a group in which individual scores may vary widely. CLICK HERE to learn more about the Snapshot graph.
